Run, Sally, run!

A friend and I browsed an antique mall this past weekend and I brought my camera along. We always have fun searching for vintage items and this "Fun With Our Family" Dick and Jane book caught my eye. This is the kind of book I learned to read from back in the 60's. (I am really dating myself, here!) Notice mother's freshly ironed blouse and skirt she is wearing to vacuum. And the lovely apron she has on to protect her dress. I do actually collect old aprons. I love the vintage fabric and trim used on them. I'm sure most of you aren't familiar with these little books, but they bring back fond childhood memories of a much simpler time.

You know you're old when things from your childhood are now vintage... I had these books, too, but earlier than the 60s! Nice shots; makes me nostalgic. My mother actually DID dress like this. :-0

Robin, what wonderful photos!! I remember these books so very well! I learned to read with them too, although it was in the 'early fifties'!! Whew...that does age me! And, like you said...a much simpler time. Thanks for the memories!!

I used them in the 70's, too!
I actually bought a few for my emergent reader. It's so nice to have a book you can just pick up and read, KWIM?

This is so cool! When you go antiquing...do they ever question you bringing your camera along? Just curious.

Love your banner too, very season appropriate!

I love stuff from the 40's and 50's and my Mum bought me a bunch of these books when I was first learning to read. Heck I think we even used them in 1st grade.
I would love to see some photos of your aprons. hint hint ;)

This is a cool book! My mom has her original Dick and Jane book saved for my DD. Reminds me of my preschool days.

I actually used to have one of these--our teacher let us pick a book from her collection to take home. Wonder where that is... Anyway, they were also using this type of book in the early 70's. Yikes. I learned to read in the early 70's???

Great shots!! Your blog photos are looking incredible...
