Bridal Shower

The theme for this week is "What you do outside the world of photography". A friend and I have been planning a bridal shower for another friends daughter. We decided to use a "vintage kitchen" theme and decorated the tables with vintage tablecloths and kitchenware. The two of us spent most of our weekend preparing for the shower on Sunday. As you can see, the bride-to-be's favorite color is pink!

Something Old

I told my husband the theme for this week is "something old" and he said I could take a picture of him - LOL ! Anyway, here is an old 1958 (the year I was born *YIKES*) calendar we have hanging in our family room. It was published by the Travelers Insurance Co. and has a vintage Currier & Ives print for each month. The print from March is titled "American Whaler" and the April print is "The Riverside". Our family room is decorated in a cabin/fishing theme, so this months print is fitting.

Bored . . .ho-hum

My emotion for today is . . . bored . . . The assignment for my photography class was to photograph people without using flash. I took our neighbors grandson to the park and we had fun on the playground equipment. He has quite the personality! We went for a little walk because I wanted some photos of him without any other kids or playground equipment in the background. Well, that's just not much fun and it didn't take long for him to get bored with the picture taking business! In the next class we get the "flash talk" and I'm looking forward to more practice photographing people.

Musical

Went with some friends to a high school musical last Thursday night, can you guess which one? I love to see all the expressions and emotions shown by these kids - they did such a great job! The music and costumes were so wonderful and the show was very entertaining. Our seats weren't the best for photos, but I wanted to take a few just for the memories.

Sunset at the lake

Went to Holmes Lake Park after dinner Saturday evening. This is a city lake/park not too far from our house with great walking paths around the lake. It was nice to finally see the sun this week!

For the Birds . .

I see this sunny bird feeder hanging on the fence when I look out our kitchen/dining area window. I got it at one of my favorite stores last summer - Pier One. We fill it with white millet bird seed and the cardinals and robins (no squirrels) love it! It keeps them nice and fat til the warmer weather gets here!

Violas

No sunshine here again today, so here are a couple of photos I took last week with the macro lens I rented. These are violas I have in a basket near the front door. The focus is not the best, but I love the colors - the bright yellow reminds me of the sun, so I am using it for the "sun" theme today. It counts, right? :)

Sunshine in the garden

The POTD theme this week is SUN. Looks like we won't be seeing the sun for the next few days around here, so here is my substitution. This sun is in my garden. Got this from a local artist who makes all kinds of funky outdoor sculpture. She uses old metal and glass (even bowling balls) and recycles it in her artwork. I like how the sunshine reflects off the piece of aqua colored glass and the curvy shadows created by the sun rays. I want to get out in my yard and photograph this at different times of the day to see how the shadows change.

I brightened the colors a bit in PS to bring out the aqua color of the glass and the rusty texture of the metal sun.

Slime one last time!

This is marshmallow slime. I made these little bird nests for our Easter dinner table. I used chinese noodles to make the nests and filled them with peanut m & m's. Happy Easter!

Green Slime

I found this old lava lamp that was stored away in our basement. It kind of looks like a slimy science experiment gone bad! I used some black velvet as a backdrop and turned the lights off in the room. I used my tripod and set the camera to AV priority, f10, ss 4.5 sec., ISO 200.

Looking for Slime

We have a wetland area near our office so I decided to take an afternoon walk and look for something slimey. No slime to be found, but I could hear the frogs and I saw a snake as I was walking in the tall grass. He startled me and I wasn't quick enough to get his picture before he slithered away! There is a hiker/biker trail that runs along the top of the hill and we use it alot when the weather is nice. NOT today - it's cloudy and about 25 degrees outside this morning - too cold for me. :( What happened to our nice spring weather???

Sweet Slime...

Since it is the Easter season, we broke open the Cadbury eggs! I can take them or leave them - they are almost too sweet for me! I am a dark chocolate lover. DS ate this one after the photo session.

Bucket-O-Slime

This week the potd challenge is a challenge - something slimy. hmmmm...

A couple of years ago, ds was really into hair gel. He found this big bucket of gel at one of the beauty supply salons, so he had to get it because it was such a great deal. Years later, the bucket is still hanging out under the bathroom sink and there is still plenty of gel left - at least it's a pretty color!

The Cup

I went out to lunch with some friends on Saturday. We went to a neighborhood cafe, "the Cup" that serves organic tea and coffee, sandwiches and salads. I had a ham sandwich on grilled ciabata bread and a salad sprinkled with dried cranberries - and to drink - wild blueberry iced tea. A very yummy meal and it was so nice to catch up with friends. With inspiration from Lorrie, I took my camera in the cafe. There were a couple of guys playing the guitar and a few people with their laptops, so no one even thought twice about my picture taking. I think I'll take it with me more often!

I took a few pics with the macro lens I rented. I don't really like the comp of this one and there's some shadow but I'm going to practice more today before I have to take it back tomorrow.
